Colline morbide e dolci, alternate a tratti dalle fenditure dei calanchi, danno vita ad un paesaggio unico e straordinario: quello della Valle del Conca. Nella Valle del Conca la natura selvaggia convive armoniosamente con l'agricoltura. Dai borghi che costellano la vallata si affacciano panorami sorprendenti che spaziano dai monti alla costa. Alcune località in particolare si predispongono alle lunghe e tranquille passeggiate e sono meta di itinerari naturalistici, in virtù della bellezza e peculiarità di certi paesaggi.

Gemmano: le grotte di Onferno, la valle del Ventena, i calanchi, i sentieri che toccano i borghi rurali, molteplici panorami circondano questo paese e ne fanno una meta obbligata per chi vuole scoprire un luogo incontaminato, integro, fermo nel tempo. Gemmano vanta anche un Museo Naturalistico, istituito per dare continuità all’attività di ricerca e promozione intrapresa nella riserva naturale orientata di Onferno.

Le Grotte di Onferno, le uniche naturali della Val Conca, costituiscono la principale attrazione naturalistica del riminese. L’inquietante toponimo cela antiche leggende. Il territorio della Riserva naturale di Onferno ha caratteristiche del tutto peculiari, sia per la presenza delle grotte carsiche, fortemente suggestive, che per la flora, tipica delle altitudini superiori. La grotta è volutamente poco illuminata, poiché ospita una preziosa colonia di pipistrelli composta da circa 4000 esemplari.

Il Parco naturale del San Bartolo offre bellezze naturali di grande fascino, come le ginestre odorose, che a maggio tingono di giallo le pendici dei colli che si affacciano sul mare, la falesia, le macchie boschive, ricche di flora e di fauna. Il Colle San Bartolo, rilievo montuoso che collega Pesaro a Gabicce, è, insieme al Conero, l'unico tratto di "costa alta" da Trieste al Gargano.

Il Monte Carpegna, da cui nasce il fiume Conca, dona la visione di un orizzonte unico. Ed è proprio per la vastità degli spazi che la località è meta dei deltaplanisti e amanti del parapendio.
Grandi prati dove pascolano mandrie di mucche e dove le poiane si posano sui rami degli alberi,  sono l'ideale per fare entrare in contatto con la natura anche i bambini molto piccoli.

Da Montefiore Conca è possibile raggiungere in poco tempo altri piccoli borghi, con i loro castelli e le lori ricchezze storiche, artistiche e archeologiche, che fanno della Valle del Conca una meta di indubbia suggestione. La maggior parte di questi borghi, come Montefiore, rientra nel novero dei comuni che fanno parte della Bandiera Arancione e dei Borghi più belli d’Italia.

Saludecio, serba un fascino arcaico e misterioso. Chi risale il primo tratto della Valconca, fatti pochi chilometri dal mare, distingue chiaramente su un poggio il profilo caratteristico di Saludecio, con i campanili, le torri e le mura. Arrivati sulla collina si entra nel paese da una antica porta che guarda verso il mare: subito si coglie l'armonia della piazza, delle vie nobili , dei vicoli. Il borgo è  celebre per l'affermato Ottocento Festival, che si tiene ogni anno nel mese di luglio.

Montegridolfo sorge al confine tra Romagna e Marche, sulla linea che divide la valle del Conca dalla Valle del Foglia. Offre un paesaggio gradevole, fatto di morbide colline che scendono verso la pianura. La struttura del paese è di grande bellezza e tutti i suoi edifici sono restaurati con cura nella prospettiva di fare di Montegridolfo uno dei più avanzati e qualificati centri per il turismo ed il relax di tutto l'entroterra romagnolo. Entrando nel borgo, infatti, ci si immerge totalmente in un'atmosfera d'altri tempi.

A Montescudo furono ritrovati preziosi reperti etruschi e romani a dimostrazione di un passato ricco nei suoi avvenimenti. Di notevole importanza per il territorio è il Museo della Civiltà Contadina. Nella frazione di Trarivi è collocato il Museo della linea gotica orientale, linea che attraversava la Valle del Conca.

Per la fertilità e bellezza delle sue terre San Giovanni in Marignano si guadagnò il nome di Granaio dei Malatesta. Il paese è al centro della parte più bassa della Valle del Conca, dove la campagna si fa piana e il fiume si prepara a sfociare nel mare di Cattolica. San Giovanni in Marignano conserva ancora tutta la struttura urbanistica del centro con la cinta muraria e i torrioni, o le grotte per la conservazione del grano. Piccolo gioiello è l'ottocentesco Teatro Massari.

Mondaino riserva molte sorprese: una bellissima piazza circolare, una rocca da cui si gode un panorama completo sul mare e sui monti e, sotto il paese, si nascondono camminamenti dei quali si raccontano misteriose storie. Il borgo vanta anche un museo: il Museo Paleontologico, ricchissimo di fossili provenienti dalla Valconca. Nel mese di agosto a Mondaino si tiene ogni anno il Palio del Daino con giochi, sfide e tenzoni di tradizione medioevale e rinascimentale.

Si citerà infine Rimini, l’antica capitale della signoria dei Malatesti. I suoi beni e i suoi monumenti archeologici, artistici e architettonici, come Castelsismondo, il Tempio Malatestiano, i numerosi Musei, fanno di Rimini una città a tutto tondo, non solo meta del turismo balneare.

Spostandosi verso il Montefeltro, da Montefiore è possibile raggiungere in poco tempo luoghi dal sapore antico, che serbano storie e leggende d’amore, di morte e di guerre: Gradara, con il suo magnifico castello, Pennabilli, San Leo e Urbino, che conserva ancora il fascino di una città rinascimentale, sono solo alcune delle più celebri località che meritano di essere visitate.

Non molto lontana da Montefiore è infine San Marino, la più antica repubblica del mondo, che mostra ancora integre le caratteristiche della cittadella medioevale.

Inaugurato nella primavera del 2008, il Camper Service di Montefiore dista solo 400 metri dal paese. La struttura, realizzata secondo il progetto che ha ottenuto il secondo premio del concorso “I borghi del turismo all’aria aperta” indetto dal Club dei Borghi più Belli d’Italia, conta 48 posti vettura, 6 colonne acqua e energia elettrica, pozzetto di scarico wc chimici, servizi igienici c/o l’adiacente campo sportivo polivalente. L'accesso all'area è possibile attraverso tessera magnetica, acquistabile presso gli esercizi pubblici di Montefiore Conca.

Cicloturismo

La Romagna è un territorio particolarmente adatto a chi va in bicicletta. Prima di tutto per la varietà del percorso: in pochi chilometri si passa dalla pianura alla collina e alla montagna, e si può scegliere tra itinerari affrontabili nell’arco di un’intera giornata o in poche ore. Professionisti, dilettanti e amatori trovano in questa terra le condizioni giuste per pedalare.

I numerosi appuntamenti cicloturistici organizzati in riviera e le scuole di ciclismo, tenute da esperti professionisti, offrono l’opportunità di scegliere un soggiorno sportivo in qualsiasi periodo dell’anno.
Molti operatori si sono specializzati nell’accoglienza dei ciclisti, attrezzando gli alberghi con locali idonei per il ricovero delle biciclette, piccole officine, menù adatti per chi va in bici, materiali informativi sui percorsi.

La Valconca regala al ciclista grandi soddisfazioni.

 L’itinerario Valconca e rocche malatestiane, ad esempio, presenta un tracciato che si dipana tra gli antichi possedimenti dei Malatesti. Dal punto di vista ciclistico è un percorso di una certa difficoltà, con una serie di salite. L’itinerario si snoda da Rimini attraverso Cattolica, Gradara, Montegridolfo, Mondaino, Montefiore Conca, San Marino e Verucchio.

Il premio è un panorama splendido. 

Altri itinerari passano per Montefiore Conca, come il Giro per  scalatori, un su e giù continuo lungo la dorsale collinare del confine romagnolo-marchigiano. Il tracciato non è molto lungo, cento chilometri circa, ma richiede impegno e abitudine alla bici. C'è un po'di tutto:curve, salite, discese; manca semmai la pianura. Il percorso si snoda da Montescudo a Gemmano, fino a Tavoleto e a Montefiore, per poi tornare verso l’azzurro del mare, a Morciano di Romagna e a San Giovanni in Marignano.

Una spiritualità ancestrale, profonda, caratterizza la gente della Valconca. Nel territorio sono disseminati numerosi santuari, da sempre meta dei pellegrini e dei fedeli. Anche Montefiore Conca è meta del culto religioso: nell’antico santuario della Madonna di Bonora giungono ancora oggi circa 500.000 pellegrini, provenienti da tutta l’Italia.

Numerosi in Valconca sono i santuari mariani. Ne è un esempio, appunto, il santuario di Montefiore.

A Saludecio è sito il santuario della Madonna del Monte, il più recente.

Il santuario della Beata Vergine delle Grazie di Montegridolfo è molto venerato dalla gente del posto, soprattutto dal pesarese. Fu eretto in seguito a due apparizioni della Madonna, nel XVI secolo. 

Nel territorio di Gemmano, una chiesetta bianca sulla sponda destra del Conca è frequentata dalla primavera e per tutta l’estate da numerosi devoti. La sua nascita sembra dovuta a due eremiti e risale, stando ai documenti, ai primi anni dell’800. Alla fine degli anni ‘90 l’edificio è stato sottoposto ad un attento restauro.

Nel XVIII secolo venne costruita a San Clemente una bellissima cappella mariana. A base ottagonale, con lesene, è fatta di mattoni, resi magici dal tempo.

In Carpegna è sito il santuario mariano più antico della Valconca, il santuario della Madonna del Faggio.

Ben sei personaggi che si fregiano del titolo di "beati" sono vissuti nel breve territorio della valle durante gli ultimi secoli: mistici, pellegrini, contadini, religiosi di vita semplice. Le vicende della loro vita e la fama dei loro miracoli sono ancora vive e feconde nei paesi della valle, che ne custodiscono i corpi santi e ne tramandano gelosamente la memoria.
A Saludecio, nella chiesa di San Biagio, si venera il beato Amato. Di origini saludecesi anche altri due beati: Cipriano Mosconi e Elisabetta Renzi.

Nella chiesa di Passano, a Coriano, è venerato il beato Enrico Ungaro.
Occorre poi salire fino a Montecerignone e recarsi al santuario di Enrico Spadafora, che vi giunse nel 1491.

Numerosi infine i luoghi di culto, luoghi di silenzi e di pace, come la Pieve di San Giovanni Battista a Carpegna, l’ex chiesa delle Monache Clarisse a Mondaino o la chiesa di San Girolamo a Saludecio.

La Strada dei Vini e dei Sapori delle Colline Riminesi comprende i comuni di Bellaria-Igea Marina, Sant’Arcangelo di Romagna, Poggio Berni, Torriana, Verucchio, Rimini, Coriano, Riccione, Misano Adriatico, San Clemente, Montescudo, Monte Colombo, Montefiore Conca, Gemmano, Morciano di Romagna, Saludecio, Mondaino, Montegridolfo, San Giovanni in Marignano, Cattolica e fra gli enti partecipanti la Provincia di Rimini e la CCIAA di Rimini. In questa terra si trovavano i Malatesta ed il Montefeltro. Questo territorio si sviluppa sulle colline dell’entroterra fra le valli del Conca e del Marecchia ed attraversa tutta la provincia fino ai confini del Montefeltro che si trova nella regione Marche.

Della Strada dei Vini e dei Sapori dei Colli di Rimini fanno parte frantoi, aziende vinicole, cantine, agriturismi, ristoranti, botteghe artigiane, istituzioni pubbliche e associazioni di categoria comprese tra le spiagge dell'Adriatico ed i borghi storici delle vallate del Conca e del Marecchia.

Ogni azienda offre suggestioni diverse e tutte insieme raccontano la storia di un territorio dall'ospitalità innata della sua gente. Viaggiare lungo i percorsi della Strada dei Vini e dei Sapori dei Colli di Rimini è anche viaggiare nel tempo, scoprire l'eredità che ci ha lasciato, vedere i colori delle stagioni e sentirne i profumi.

Ogni paesaggio è l'espressione di ciò che la natura ed il lavoro dell'uomo hanno creato, ogni assaggio è una riposta alle radici del sapore e del sapere. Nature

Smooth and gentle hills, alternated at times by the crevices of gullies, give rise to a unique and extraordinary landscape: the Conca Valley. In the Conca Valley wild nature lives in harmony with agriculture. Surprising panoramas, ranging from the mountains to the coast, open out from the towns that strew the valley. Several places in particular have long and tranquil walks and are the sites of natural routes because of the beauty and particular character of certain landscapes.

Gemmano: the Onferno grottoes, the Ventena valley, the crevices, the paths that touch the rural villages, many panoramas surround this town and make it a ‘must’ destination for whoever wants to discover an uncontaminated, integral, timeless place. Gemmano also vaunts a Nature Museum, founded to give continuity to the activity of research and promotion undertaken in the Onferno orientated nature reserve.

The Onferno Grottoes, the only natural grottoes of the Conca Valley, are the main nature attraction in the Rimini area. The disturbing place name hides ancient legends. The territory of the Onferno Nature Reserve has completely peculiar characteristics, both for the presence of the carsic grottoes, highly evocative, and the flora, typical of uplands. The grotto is voluntarily little illuminated because it contains a precious colony of bats consisting of about 4000 examples.   

The San Bartolo Nature Park offers natural beauties of great fascination, such as odorous juniper, which in May tinge the slopes of the hills that overlook the sea with yellow, the cliff, and the wood scrub, rich with flora and fauna. The San Bartolo Hill, a mountainous height that connects Pesaro to Gabicce, and, together with the Conero, the only stretch of “high coast” from Trieste to the Gargano.

Mount Carpegna, from which the Conca River originates, gives the view of a single horizon. And precisely because of the vastness of the space that it is the destination of hang-gliding and paragliding fans.  
Huge meadows where herds of cows graze and where buzzards pose on the branches of trees, are ideal for making even the smallest children come into contact with nature.

Art 

From Montefiore Conca it is possible to reach other small towns very quickly, with their castles and their historical, artistic and archaeological riches, making the Conca Valley a destination of undoubted evocation. Most of these towns, like Montefiore, are in the group of local councils that are part of the Orange Flag and the Most Beautiful Towns in Italy Club.

Saludecio holds an archaic and mysterious fascination. Whoever climbs the first tract of the Valconca, a few kilometres from the sea, clearly distinguishes the characteristic profile of Saludecio on a hillock, with its steeples, towers and wall. Climbing the hill, you enter the town through an ancient gate that faces the sea: you immediately grasp the harmony of the square, the main streets and the lanes. The town is famous for the affirmed 19^th Century Festival, held every year in July.

Montegridolfo rises on the boundary between Romagna and the Marches, on the line that divides the Conca Valley from the Foglia Valley. It offers a pleasant landscape of smooth hills that descend toward the plain. The structure of the town is very beautiful and all its buildings have been carefully restored with the prospect of making Montegridolfo one of the most advanced and qualified centres for tourism and relaxation in the entire Romagna hinterland. Entering the town, you are steeped, in fact, in an atmosphere of yesteryear.

Precious Etruscan and Roman finds were uncovered in Montescudo, demonstrating the rich past of its history. The Museum of Farming Culture is of considerable importance for the territory.   In the Trarivi district there is the Museum of the Eastern Gothic Line, the line that crossed the Conca Valley.  

San Giovanni in Marignano gained the name of the Granary of the Malatesta family because of the fertility and beauty of its lands. The town is at the centre of the lowest part of the Conca Valley, where the land flattens out and the river prepares to flow into the sea at Cattolica. San Giovanni in Marignano still conserves the entire urban structure of the centre with its encircling wall and towers, or the grottoes for the conservation of grain. The nineteenth century Teatro Massari is a small jewel.

Mondaino reserves many surprises: an extremely beautiful circular square, a fortress from which to enjoy a complete panorama of the sea and the mountains, and, below the town, are hidden walkways about which mysterious stories are told. The town also boasts a museum: the Palaeontology Museum, extremely rich in fossils from the Valconca. During August the Deer Prize is held every year in Mondaino with traditional medieval and renaissance games, challenges and contests.

Finally Rimini, the ancient capital of the Malatesti lords. Their property and archaeological, artistic and architectonic monuments, such as Castelsismondo, the Tempio Malatestiano, and the numerous Museums, make Rimini an all-round city and not just a destination for seaside tourism.

Moving toward Montefeltro, it is possible to reach quickly from Montefiore places with ancient savour that hold stories and legends of love, death and war; Gradara, with its magnificent castle, Pennabilli, San Leo and Urbino that still conserve the fascination of a Renaissance city, are only a few of the most famous places that deserve to be visited. 

Not far from Montefiore there is finally San Marino, the most ancient republic in the world, still showing the integral characteristics of a medieval citadel.

Cycle tourism

Romagna is a territory particularly suitable for whoever rides a bicycle. First of all because of the variety of routes: in a few kilometres you pass from the plain to the hills to the mountains, and you can choose between routes that you can face for a whole day or a few hours. Professionals and amateurs find the right conditions for pedalling in this countryside.

The numerous cycling tourism appointments organised along the Riviera and by the Cycling Schools, held by professional experts, offer the opportunity of choosing a sports holiday at any time of the year.

Many operators have specialised in welcoming cyclists, equipping their hotels with premises suitable for repairing bicycles, small workshops, menus suitable for bike riders, and informative materials about the routes.

The Valconca gives cyclists great satisfaction. 

 The Valconca and Malatesta Fortresses route, for example, presents a stretch that winds among the ancient possessions of the Malatesta family. From the cycling point of view it is a route with a certain difficulty, with a series of climbs. The route winds from Rimini through Cattolica, Gradara, Montegridolfo, Mondaino, Montefiore Conca, San Marino and Verucchio.

The prize is a splendid panorama. 

Other routes go through Montefiore Conca, such as the Giro per scalatori [Circuit for Climbers] a continuous up and down along the spine of the hills of the Romagna-Marches boundary. The stretch is not very long, about a hundred kilometres, but requires commitment and bicycle expertise.  There is a little of everything: curves, climbs, descents; if anything, the plain is lacking. The route winds from Montescudo to Gemmano, as far as Tavoleto and Montefiore, to then turn toward the blue of the sea, to Morciano of Romagna and to San Giovanni in Marignano.

Spirituality

An ancestral, profound spirituality characterises the people of the Valconca. Numerous sanctuaries are spread throughout the territory, the age-old destination of pilgrims and the faithful. Montefiore Conca is also a destination of religious worship: in the ancient sanctuary of the Madonna of Bonora around 500.000 pilgrims still arrive today, coming from all over Italy. 

Marian sanctuaries are numerous in Valconca. One example is, precisely, the Montefiore sanctuary.

Saludecio is the site of the Madonna del Monte sanctuary, the most recent.  

The sanctuary of the Beata Vergine delle Grazie of Montegridolfo is greatly venerated by the people of the place, above all by the people of Pesaro. It was built following two apparitions of  the Madonna, in the XVI century. 

In the territory of Gemmano, a small white church on the right bank of the Conca is attended from spring and the entire summer by large numbers of devotees. Its origin seems due to two hermits and goes back, according to the documents, to the early years of the nineteenth century. At the end of the 90’s the building underwent a careful restoration.

A beautiful Marian chapel was built at San Clemente in the XVIII century. On an octagonal base, with pilasters, it is made of bricks, rendered magical by time.

The oldest Marian sanctuary in the Valconca is in Carpegna, the sanctuary of the Madonna del Faggio.

A good six people who have born the title of "blessed" have lived in the small territory of the valley in recent centuries: mystics, pilgrims, farmers, religious people with simple lives. The events of their lives and the fame of their miracles are still alive and fertile in the towns of the valley that keep the sacred bodies and jealously hand down their memory.
In Saludecio, in the church of San Biagio, they venerate the blessed Amato. Two other blessed people: Cipriano Mosconi and Elisabetta Renzi are also of Saludecio origin. 

In the church of Passano, at Coriano, the blessed Enrico Ungaro is venerated.
You need to climb as far as Montecerignone and go to the sanctuary of Enrico Spadafora, who arrived there in 1491.

Wines and savours

The Road of Wines and Savours of the Rimini Hills includes the local councils of Bellaria-Igea Marina, Sant’Arcangelo di Romagna, Poggio Berni, Torriana, Verucchio, Rimini, Coriano, Riccione, Misano Adriatico, San Clemente, Montescudo, Monte Colombo, Montefiore Conca, Gemmano, Morciano di Romagna, Saludecio, Mondaino, Montegridolfo, San Giovanni in Marignano, Cattolica and among the participating bodies the Province of Rimini and the  CCIAA of Rimini. In this land are the Malatesta and the Montefeltro families. This territory stretches over the hills of the hinterland, between the valleys of the Conca and the Marecchia and crosses the entire province as far as the boundaries of the Montefeltro in the Marches region.

Oil mills, wine companies, cellars, agritourism holdings, restaurants, craft workshops, public institutions, and category associations between the beaches of the Adriatic and the historic towns of the valleys of the Conca and the Marecchia form the Road of Wines and Savours of the Rimini Hills.

Every company offers different recommendations and together tell the story of a territory with its people’s innate hospitality. Travelling along the routes of the Road of Wines and Savours of the Rimini Hills is also to journey in time, discovering the inheritance that it has left us, seeing the colours of the seasons and smell their perfumes. 

Every landscape is the expression of what nature and the work of man have created; every sample is a response to the roots of savour and knowledge. Wine and oil are the highlights of the products of this corner of Romagna and become the ideal companions of a journey of discovery of typical products, local craftsmanship, premises with tasty traditional dishes, from meat to blue fish, from salamis to cheeses, from piadina to typical desserts, from truffles to honey and chestnuts.  

A corner of land able to evoke emotion in every sense and to set every step of forever new and unforgettable paths in the memory.  

The products under the protection of this wine road are the Colli di Rimini Doc and the Sangiovese di Romagna Doc. But also products other than wine are protected by this denomination and they are the Olio Extravergine d‘Oliva Colline di Romagna Dop, Home-made Bread, Bizulà, Piadina, Honey, the Formaggio di fossa, untreated milk Pecorino, fresh cow and sheep Ricotta, the Squacquerone of Romagna, Porchetta, the Heavy Hog, the Romagna Strawberry, the Romagna Loto, the Montefiore Chestnut, the Montescudo Potato, the Black Truffle, the Miacetto, the Sanguinaccio, the Saba, the Savor, il Bustrengo and the Nocino.
